Confessions of a Fairy Godmother

No one appreciates me. No one appreciates fairy godmothers. We give, give and fulfill people’s dreams, but nobody gives us something in return. Some not even say ‘thank you’ Am I the only one that’s bothered by this? “You know what?” I thought. “I’m going to be my own fairy godmother, and the first thing I’ll do is… go scuba diving.

I got out of the sofa, grabbed my purse and went running to the nearby beach. I was so excited my stomach was tickling. I got to the booth and paid the lessons. They gave me this very uncomfortable suit and heavy oxygen. “This is going to be so much fun.” I thought. The guide gave me the instructions and there we go. There were tons fishes, of so many colors and sizes. I tried to go and grab one but either my hand was too slow or they were too fast. There was also a lot of coral. The guide told me to don’t touch them because it harmed them and some were poisonous. I got tired very fast; I wasn’t used to so much physical movement. When I got home my body was sore but my heart delighted by the new experience I had. I tucked myself into bed for a good night sleep… until I heard a knocked on the door. “You got to be kidding me,” I said out loud.

It was a wish. From a girl who wanted her parents back. “Well, I can’t raise people from the dead.” I thought relief that I didn’t have to work.

For years and years, I lived to grant my wishes and dreams. I went to Spain, I played paintball and I learned to play the piano. At the same time, the wishes kept coming from the same girl. She wished for her family to treat her nice. She wished for more time to sleep and rest. She wished she could go out more.

At first, I didn’t care for her. She wanted her family to treat her nice? She had to be nice! Did she want more time to sleep? Go to bed early! Did she want to go out? Go! No one is stopping her. But the wishes kept coming. They piled up in front of my door and made a mess. So, I decided to take care of it: I went to see the girl. She was so… beautiful, kind and charming. She had blonde hair, blue eyes, and a sweet smile. Her family was so mean to her. They didn’t let her go out, she did her sisters’ chores, she slept in the worst bedroom, and she ate alone. After I saw her I went home to cry. I abandoned this poor girl to go learn horseback riding. When I woke up the next morning I rummage through the pile of wishes till I found the most recent she wished. She wanted to go to a party. “OK, that’s easy. I’ll do it.” I thought. And the rest, as they say, is history.
